Handheld FTIR Spectrometer
Characteristics
Unique handheld Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. Ahura Scientific has also drawn on its extensive experience in the miniaturization of optoelectronic devices and the design of highly rugged optomechanical systems in this spectrometer. It is remarkable how a fully functional FTIR spectrometer with a resolution of 4 cm⁻¹ and a spectral range of 650–4000 cm⁻¹ has been fitted into such a compact housing. The spectrometer is equipped with a special detector and an extremely long-life solid-state laser, as well as an integrated diamond ATR. All spectrometer components, including the laser, are manufactured by Ahura Scientific. A major advantage of the spectrometer is its very fast start-up time; unlike standard FTIR spectrometers, it requires no warm-up time. Thanks to the diamond ATR and a special fixture for reproducible application of pressure to the sample against the ATR, the spectrometer enables easy measurement of liquids, pastes, gels, films, powders, and solid samples.
The spectrometer features an integrated high-performance computing system and unique software that uses patented chemometric algorithms previously employed in the FirstDefender Raman spectrometer. This significantly improves the reliability of substance identification by minimizing false-positive identifications, but, most importantly, enables the automatic identification of mixtures containing up to four components. Automatic substance identification is a very important capability, as mixtures of substances are frequently encountered in real-world applications. It is difficult to imagine an operator working in field conditions and wearing protective clothing manually searching spectral libraries and performing manual spectral subtractions in an attempt to identify a mixture of substances—even assuming that the operator were an expert in working with infrared spectra and spectral libraries.
In addition to its uniquely compact dimensions, this is the only handheld FTIR spectrometer that meets the requirements of the MIL-STD-810F military standard. It is waterproof, dustproof, shock-resistant, can be fully decontaminated, withstands thermal shock, and more.
Immediately after its market launch in 2008, the spectrometer received several prestigious awards, including the Cygnus Innovation Award for the best product in the HAZMAT and WMD category and the Frost & Sullivan Product of the Year 2008 award in the field of chemical identification.
The TruDefender FTXi spectrometer is additionally equipped with mobile connectivity.
