Mobile MS spectrometer for detection and identification
Characteristics
MX908 is a unique mobile mass spectrometer for the detection of hazardous substances. It is a mass spectrometer utilizing HPMS (High Pressure Mass Spectrometry) technology. The device uses a completely new miniaturized ion trap technology operating at elevated pressure. This has made it possible to develop a miniaturized and rugged mass spectrometer (without standard vacuum pumps) while achieving very good resolution. The device enables direct analysis of gaseous samples as well as analysis of solid samples and swabs.
The MX908 spectrometer is designed for use under extreme conditions, is easy to operate while wearing heavy protective equipment, and can be used directly in the “hot zone”. The algorithms used perform fully automated analysis, allowing the operator to focus on the detection and identification of the most hazardous substances in gaseous, liquid, solid, or, newly, aerosolized form. Results are available within seconds (for air analysis, every 1 s) or within tens of seconds (thermal desorption and aerosol analysis), with excellent selectivity and a low risk of interference from less hazardous background substances or generation of false-positive alarms.
The spectrometer also overcomes a number of other challenges traditionally associated with IMS spectrometers or mobile GC-MS spectrometers. It reaches full operational status in less than 1 minute after power-on, has a wide dynamic range, and does not suffer from cleaning issues following exposure to high concentrations. Typical cleaning times are measured in tens of seconds.
